We developed a 16 channel servo controller for a robotics application. The board was designed to be compatible with the popular Raspberry Pi and has multiple interfaces including USB, SPI and Bluetooth. Each servo is individually controllable and power is supplied via a high efficiency buck regulator circuit. The microcontroller used was the Atmel ATxmega256A3BU. Timing the servo signals was a critical part of the design. The pulse signals were generated using the xmega's Timer/Counter peripherals.
